Mohammad Kaif believes that MS Dhoni will mercilessly target Yash Dayal if the left-arm seamer bowls to him during the death overs in the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) IPL 2024 clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The two powerhouses are set to face off at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 18.
A victory for CSK will secure their spot in the playoffs, while a triumph for RCB, especially by a significant margin, could edge them ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad and his team for the final playoff berth.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Kaif was asked about the bowlers RCB might use against MS Dhoni in the death overs.
“That’s a weak area for RCB – who will bowl at the death? They have Yash Dayal, who bowls back-of-the-hand slower balls. MS Dhoni will love that pace. If you bowl at 125 to 130 kph, he won’t spare you. I guarantee you that,” Kaif remarked.
The former India batter suggested that Mohammed Siraj would be a better choice than Yash Dayal for death-over duties and advised against bowling yorkers to the CSK captain.
“Mohammed Siraj has pace. He charges in. 130 kph bowlers won’t work against Dhoni. You need to bowl at 140-145 kph and avoid yorkers. He’s always ready for the yorker. We’ve discussed using the short ball, slower deliveries, and keeping it wide,” Kaif elaborated.
MS Dhoni has been in sensational form in IPL 2024, amassing 136 runs at a blistering strike rate of 226.66 in 10 innings. He has only been dismissed twice, including a run-out, and has hammered 11 fours and 12 sixes.
With Dhoni’s formidable record this season, his showdown with the RCB bowlers, especially Yash Dayal, promises to be a thrilling encounter that could significantly impact the outcome of the match.
