Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has highlighted the communication barriers that arise when working with foreign coaches, particularly in terms of language. His comments come as Jason Gillespie prepares to begin his role as the national team’s red-ball coach.

Currently, the Pakistan cricket team is under the guidance of Gary Kirsten, a former South African batter who is leading the white-ball format, and Gillespie, a former Australian fast bowler, who will focus on Test cricket. Kirsten’s experience and Gillespie’s coaching credentials are highly regarded, and both have been appointed to rejuvenate the team following their disappointing 2023 World Cup performance.

Naseem Shah’s Views on Language Barriers

During a recent press conference, Naseem Shah expressed his concerns about the language issues that can arise with foreign coaches. He remarked, “There is a language problem with foreign coaches. We need someone to translate the language. It is easier to communicate with the coach in your own language.”

Naseem’s Return and Pakistan’s Upcoming Test Series

Reflecting on Pakistan’s recent performances, the 21-year-old bowler acknowledged that the team has struggled across formats. Naseem sees the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh as a crucial opportunity to regain their form. He noted, “Yes, our comeback wasn’t great, and we can’t deny that we didn’t play good cricket. Criticism is part of it, and we must endure it until things improve.”

Naseem also mentioned his own challenges, stating, “I haven’t played red-ball cricket for 13 months; it’s not easy to play after a long time. International cricket has its own pressure; however, we are training hard for it.”

Series Preview

Pakistan’s last Test series was an away series against Australia, which ended in a 3-0 defeat. As they prepare to face Bangladesh, starting August 21 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, is considered the favorite. While Pakistan has announced their squad, Bangladesh’s lineup remains to be revealed.

As the team gears up for this critical series, the effectiveness of communication between players and coaches could play a significant role in their performance.
